Match cards that rhyme. Say it loud. Score big.

  • GET POINTS FOR MAKING RHYMES
Combine your cards with the cards in play to build rhymes. Match great with eight, chose with goes, or stride with guide. Now add up the card numbers and bank your points. The player with the most points wins.
  • FUN FOR KIDS, TEENS, ADULTS & SENIORS
A word game every generation can win, for 1 to 6 players. Grandparents bring the vocabulary, kids bring the speed, and everyone competes head-to-head. Perfect for family game night, holiday gatherings, road trips, and coffee-table matches, and the compact box goes anywhere.
  • TRAIN THE EAR, NOT JUST THE EYE
Rhyming is about sound, not spelling: eight, great, straight, and weight all rhyme, and none of them are spelled alike. Players sharpen the listening skills behind strong reading, poetry, and songwriting, one rhyme at a time.
  • 56 SQUARE RHYME-BUILDING CARDS
Color-coded point values (1, 2, 3, and 4 points) add strategy: easy rhymes score fast, trickier matches score big. Includes accordion-fold directions with advanced play variations and a built-in rhyme list.
  • DESIGNED BY LEARNING EXPERTS
Created by Scholar Within, makers of research-based reading and spelling programs. Parental advisory warning: this game creates poets, singer-song writers, rappers, and tongue-twisting linguists.
  • SCREEN-FREE FUN
100% device-free. Great for game night, road trips, restaurants, waiting rooms, and rainy afternoons.

The word game you play with your ears.

Which Rhyme Is It? is a fast, competitive card game the whole family will actually want to play.

Every card has a word and a point value. On your turn, combine one of your cards with a card on the table to make a rhyme, and each turn builds from there. Hereโ€™s the twist: rhymes are about how wordsย sound, not how theyโ€™re spelled. Greatย rhymes withย rate,ย choseย rhymes withย goes, andย strideย rhymes withย guide. Just looking at the spelling will only get you so far in this game.

Say the words aloud, listen to the endings, and play your cards right side up or upside down. Then add up the numbers on the joined cards and score your points.

When one player runs out of cards and everyone has had the same number of turns, the game ends. Count your points. The highest score wins.

Why kids get smarter while playing

Rhymes are words that end with similar sounds, likeย sunย andย fun. Hearing and matching those ending sounds builds phonemic awareness, one of the strongest predictors of reading success, and Which Rhyme Is It? gives players dozens of reps every single game. Theyโ€™re practicing:

  • Listening skills: tuning in to how words sound, not just how they look
  • Sound-spelling flexibility: discovering that flour and flower rhyme while drove and prove donโ€™t
  • Vocabulary: discovering new words and new ways they connect
  • Mental math: adding card values and tallying scores
  • Strategy: deciding when to play a high-value card or rebalance a tough hand

How to play (in 60 seconds)

  1. Set up: Place 6 red starter cards in a horizontal row in the center of the table.
  2. Deal: 7 cards each for 1โ€“2 players, 6 for 3โ€“4 players, 5 for 5โ€“6 players. Keep your cards face up in front of you.
  3. Play: Take turns combining one of your cards with a card on the table to make a rhyme, right side up or upside down. Canโ€™t make one? Draw from the pile until you can.
  4. Say it aloud: Rhymes are judged by sound, so speak the words and listen to the endings.
  5. Rebalance: Once per game, trade up to 5 cards from your hand for new ones.
  6. Score: Each rhyme is worth the sum of its card numbers (a 3-card + 1-card rhyme = 4 points). Tally as you go.
  7. Win: When the game ends, the most points takes the victory.

Advanced play: use 5 starter cards instead of 6, and/or use any card as a starter card.
